Who runs it

QR Free Forever is built and maintained by Pedro Rodrigues, an independent developer in Portugal. It is a one-person project: the same person writes the code, tests every QR code type and answers the emails. There is no company behind it and no premium plan.

Why I built it

Many "free" QR code generators make dynamic codes that send every scan through their own servers, and those codes stop working when the trial or subscription ends. I wanted static codes instead: what you type is stored in the pattern itself, so the code keeps working with no account and nothing to renew. A link code only stops working if the link itself goes dead.

How it's built

Everything runs in your browser. The open-source qrcode-generator library (MIT licence) turns your text into the QR pattern, set to UTF-8 so accents, emoji and non-Latin scripts come through intact. Your own device then draws the PNG on a canvas or writes the SVG file. Nothing you type is uploaded, and scanning a code never contacts this site.

Every QR code type is checked by automated tests that build a code, read it back with the jsQR decoder and compare the result with what was typed, so a Wi-Fi password with a semicolon or a contact name with an accent decodes exactly as entered. The privacy policy explains the cookies the site itself may use.
